In this post, I am going to show you how to install the header required to connect a Nordic PCA10056 nRF52840-DK to a Keil ULINKPro. By doing so, you will be able to use all the ETM trace features built into this chip and supported by the ULINKpro.
The first step is to acquire the SAMTEC 20 pin header that must be attached to the board. I highly recommend that you use solder paste for this, as it will be much easier than using an iron and regular solder which is what I did as I didn’t have SMT solder paste handy. This is the header that you need, available from Digi-Key and other distributors:
Below, you can see P25 (TRACE pads). This is where the SAMTEC connector must be attached.
Here is the connector once attached to the PCA10056-DK. As I mentioned earlier, I don’t recommend using solder and a soldering iron to mount it, solder paste and hot air will be much quicker.
In the next post, I’ll explain how to set up the board and power it from the USB port, and demonstrate some of the trace capabilities.
